A Cranston woman and Providence school teacher has to undergo daily medication therapy and might never fully recover after contracting fungal meningitis from medication she got from the New England Compounding Center.
The same business is accused of distributing tainted steroids to hundreds of people and dozens have died.
Patricia Schmeddy-Necht told WPRI that she is "angry, frustrated and scared" about her health and future. She has to take daily medications through an IV and might never fully recover from the fungal meningitis infection.
Now the bills are piling up, so friends have planned a fundraiser to help the family get through this difficult time. It's tonight at Parlour, a bar in Providence on North Main Street.
The fundraiser is from 3 to 6 p.m.
