Motorists on Route 6 or Interstate 295 on Monday might be alarmed to see smoke, fire and flames on the side of the highway.

But don't worry — the fire will be part of a controlled grassland burn by Providence Water.

The utility said it will be burning about 60-acres of the watershed property known as Joslin Farm on Monday to "help stabilize soils and enhance water quality protection efforts by addressing ecosystem health concerns and promoting native plants and animals," according to a release.

The planned burn is dependent on favorable ground and weather conditions to ensure safe and effective burning. It is anticipated that the burn will be completed in one day. Joslin Farm is located on the west side of the Scituate Reservoir.

The services of a qualified burn boss have been retained and an experienced crew will conduct the burn following a detailed plan developed specifically for the site. The local fire department will provide assistance in carrying out the burn.
