A Cranston man is facing charges of eluding a police officer in a high speed chase and other charges after he allegedly crashed a Cadillac on Manton Avenue in Providence.
Police said the car driven by Arney B. Hepburn, 28, of 68 Pershing St., Cranston, was displaying license plates belonging to another car that was reported stolen and the ownership of the Cadillac is unclear.
It all started at around 1 a.m. on Saturday when police attempted to stop the Cadillac in Olneyville, which they believed was stolen.
Hepburn then allegedly took off and drove more than 50 mph as he was being chased by multiple officers.
Hepburn then crashed into a utility pole at 590 Manton Ave., police said, and it took more than 45 minutes to extricate him from the wrecked Cadillac.
A 19-year-old passenger in the car was injured.
Police charged Hepburn with eluding police in a high speed chase and multiple traffic summons.
Court records show Hepburn was on probation after pleading guilty to possession of narcotics with intent to deliver, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest earlier this year.
Hepburn has been in and out of the courts more than 15 times since 2003 for a variety of charges including marijuana possession, numerous narcotics possession charges, simple assault, driving under the influence and trespassing.
