A Cranston man is facing charges of receiving stolen goods and obtaining money under false pretenses after he allegedly stole a dozen marine batteries from a business in Warwick and sold them to J&S Scrap Metal in Johnston recently.

Johnston Police charged Ulysses Leonard Karpedah, 30, of 414 Park Ave., on May 10 and he is being held without bail on an unrelated charge.

Police said they met with a Warwick detective at J&S Scrap after the detective advised Johnston police that he was following up on the theft of the marine batteries in Warwick.

J&S Owner Jeffrey Cadieux showed the officers surveillance video of Karpedah unloading 12 batteries from the rear of his Ford Escape and then cashing out.

Cadieux told police that he paid Karpedah $185 for the batteries. Police took back three of the remaining batteries that were not sold, which where then returned to Atlantic Marine Transport in Warwick, where Karpedah allegedly stole the batteries from a hydraulic trailer and two boats.
