The Pawtuxet River in Cranston could be climbing back to flood levels by evening as more rain is expected to bring between 1 and 2 inches to the area, starting today.
The National Weather Service has the area under a flood watch once again, lasting until Tuesday evening.
The Pawtuxet's flood stage is 9 feet and as of 3:45 a.m. this morning it was at 10.2 feet. Minor flooding is expected as the rains come through and the river begins to collect all the runoff from streets and nearby streams and tributaries.
The heaviest of the rains will fall tonight, the National Weather Service forecast, and some areas could get upwards of one inch per hour during the worst of it. Showers will subside Tuesday morning but another round of showers and thunderstorms will develop again tomorrow afternoon into the evening.
Flood-prone areas of Cranston already saw standing water and street flooding over the weekend as the remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea drenched the region.
