Images of the house that was raided by Cranston Police on Monday and found to be home to three suffering children living in squalor, surrounded by sick dogs, feces, maggots and garbage, paint a picture of drug abuse and neglect.
From our detailed story on the incident:
Three small children were removed from a house and their parents are being charged with cruelty and neglect after a drug raid led Cranston Police to a scene on Preston Drive that can only be described as horrifying, inhumane and disgusting.
As officers entered the house at 59 Preston Drive on Monday, warrant in hand, they expected to find drugs and drug dealing paraphernalia thanks to a weeks-long investigation into the activities of Renick Johnson, 27, and Arcangela Calamita, 26, who reportedly were seen coming and going out of the house on a constant basis.
Police did find crack, heroin, a digital scale and other drug dealing tools and equipment, as well as a stolen car and $2,000 cash.
But it was the condition of the house and the sight of a 2-month-old baby lying on a bed surrounded by garbage and soiled diapers — in the same room Johnson and Calamita had seven grams of crack and a bottle of Vicodin — that officers will not soon forget.
