Watch for Slush-Covered Roads

Intersection at Rolfe Square 8:00 am Sunday after the blizzard

With many roads still covered in slush, and even with schools delayed one hour, this morning's commute could be treacherous.

Although the daytime high temperature will be 44 degrees, city streets, especially side streets that were not plowed to the pavement, will be slippery and covered with jagged and icy trenches caused by cars driving through the slush yesterday during the rain.

Many residents are unhappy with the condition of the roads. On our Facebook page and in a post on this site yesterday, several said they think the city could have done a better job treating the roads to avoid the situation people will face this morning.

"I am shocked and appalled by the so called plowing of the city streets. As of today, Mon I drove down Hoffman which has still not been plowed. Where were all the plows? Did someone monitor them to make sure they were not sitting in parking lots while on the clock?" said Patch reader Diane.

"The streets Lauren's and Garden, Auburn still have messy snow piles at the intersections.. Not GOOD!" said Mary Goding. "Needs to be cleared before children can walk / wait at bus stops.. No safe place to stand. Is the city going to shovel out the fire hydrants ???? It s a bumpy , slippery ride.. Stay safe anyone commuting in the am..."

Patch is sitting down with the mayor today and will find out more about the street and sidewalk situation. Stay tuned.
