Today, we're relaunching the daily Five Things post after a couple weeks of hiatus and it's a great day to kick things off. There's so much going on in Cranston today.

Superintendent
By now, you're probably wondering why we have a profile of Judith Lundsten on the site but not the other two candidates for the superintendent job. We'll be posting them soon — we promise! And time is of the essence — the School Committee meets tonight at Hope Highlands and the agenda indicates that they will be making an appointment. Sorry for any delays.
Stories
Shawn Middleton will be at the Central Library tonight after 6:30 p.m. with his engaging storytelling. Expect to see finger puppets, hear sound effects and dancing and more. No registration is necessary, but space is limited.
Balloon
Watching a professional artist make balloon animals is mesmerizing. Tonight is your chance to watch Ron Sargent make amazing creations that you can take home. He'll be at the Knightsville Branch for two hours starting at 5:30 p.m.
Dog Days
The Auburn Library is running a trivia contest until Aug. 3 that could land you free tickets to see the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie. Come by any time to pick up a trivia sheet. Contest is open to children entering Kindergarten through grade 5.
Smash and Grab
On this day on Cranston Patch in 2011: A 20-year-old Cranston man faces charges of attempted breaking of entering and obstruction of justice after a failed smash and grab attempt at Player's Clothing Store on Garfield Avenue.
