Elizabeth Beisel is coming home from London with some new jewelry. North Kingstown's Beisel won the silver medal in the women's 400-meter individual medley on Saturday at the Aquatic Center in the 2012 London Olympics.
Nineteen-year-old Beisel was favored to take home the gold – but came up short to China's Ye Shiwen who set a world record in the event. Beisel finished with a time of 4 minutes 31.27 seconds, roughly three seconds behind Ye Shiwen who finished in 4:28.43.
Beisel has another chance at the gold with her second event – the 200-meter backstroke – scheduled to begin next Thursday.
